Amabuki Shuzo - Junmai Series
Project Type: Packaging Ritual,
Material Narrative & Visual Overture

Client: Amabuki Shuzo
Year: 2025
Bridging three centuries of Japanese mastery with contemporary aesthetics, we orchestrated a comprehensive visual narrative for Amabuki Shuzo. This commission transcended traditional labeling to become a sensory dialogue between floral yeast innovation and tactile materiality. We curated the structural evolution of their flagship Junmai vessel and composed a global visual overture. Through high-contrast dramaturgy and disciplined minimalism, we captured the spirit of Saga Prefecture, positioning the bottle not as a container, but as
a sculptural object of liquid art.

Graphic Design & Photography Style
“Botanical Chiaroscuro”

We steered away from predictable tropes to embrace a bolder, more atmospheric narrative. The creative direction, Botanical Chiaroscuro, explores the tension between the "darkness" of the fermentation tanks and the vibrant "light" of the floral yeasts. We utilized
a theatrical lighting scheme to treat the vessels as sculptures emerging from the void, highlighting the juxtaposition of metallic foils against raw, organic textures.
The typography balances the weight of historic calligraphy with Swiss precision, creating a visual silence that allows the sake’s unique profile to speak with radical clarity.

AMABUKI BREWERY

Nestled in the fertile shadows of the Sefuri mountains since the Edo period, Amabuki Shuzo does not merely brew sake; they curate nature’s most elusive essences. For over three centuries, this Maison has defied convention through
a radical communion with the botanical world. Unlike standard brewing, Amabuki harnesses wild yeasts extracted from living flora—hibiscus, marigold, and strawberry blossoms—creating a signature unmatched in the industry.

This "flower yeast" technique is a masterful dialogue between ancient ritual and avant-garde biology.
It results in profiles of startling complexity: untamed floral aromatics, crisp acidity, and rare hues of delicate rosé. By wedding the pristine waters of the Saga Plain with a rebellious spirit of innovation,
Amabuki transforms fermentation into an act of artistry, yielding a liquid that is as structurally
disciplined as it is emotionally resonant.
